Stephen Clarence Tyndall was born Dec. 15, 1948, in the Provo, Utah, hospital to Clarence and Ottella Watson Tyndall. He was their first natural-born child but joined a family of two brothers who were adopted. Steve passed away Oct. 29, 2026, at home after a lingering illness.

Steve was always known as being a hard worker. He delivered newspapers for years. Then, as soon as he was old enough, he found his first job at the Sizzler Steak House in Provo. He worked there until he graduated from high school.

He married his high school sweetheart, Cheri Lynne Bills, in 1967. Their marriage was solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple one year later. They spent the next five years working and starting their family, and Steve attended Brigham Young University. He worked during his college years for Ireco Chemicals in Salt Lake City. He graduated from BYU in 1972. By that time they had two daughters, Shanna (1967) and Wendy (1974). After graduation he worked as a manager for Kmart stores. In 1974 Steve accepted a job to manage a lumber, hardware and coal yard in Kemmerer, Wyoming. At that time they added another child to their family, Tyre Stephen (1974). He bought the store in 1976, and it became a True Value hardware store. The new name for the business was Frontier Lumber and Coal Co. He and his wife, Cheri, managed that business until 1997, when it burned down. That was a hard time for both of them. They were both out on a job and lost their business in one night. They took their time trying to decide what to do. They had built a beautiful new home in Kemmerer but were not sure if they wanted to stay there.

After two years, Steve and Cheri were called to serve a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in 1999. They were called to serve in the Micronesia Guam Mission. They served in the mission office, and Steve was called as branch president of the Talisay Branch. It was a wonderful, busy time, and they loved it.

After returning from their mission, Steve and Cheri decided to open a new business in Logan, Utah, with their son, Ty, who was a recent graduate of Utah State University. They built a full-service car wash and detail center called Auto Spa in 2001. They ran the business together for 15 years and sold it in 2016 when Steve had a pacemaker installed and could no longer work around the car wash equipment.

Steve was an avid outdoorsman. He loved to hunt, fish, play golf, snorkel and dive, water-ski, snowmobile and go on razor and four-wheeler trips. He loved to camp out with his son. One of the highlights of his life was going to Africa on a hunting safari with his nephew, Brandon.

Steve and Cheri moved into their current home in Smithfield, Utah, in 2003. Steve served in many positions in the church over the years, including high council, bishop of the Single Young Adult Ward, Gospel Doctrine teacher for several years and seminary teacher. He had a strong testimony of his Father in Heaven and His son, Jesus Christ.

Steve and Cheri lived a wonderful life together. They worked together, played together, traveled much of the world together and prayed together. They are survived by their three children: Shanna Tyndall Nussbaum (Keith) of Tarzana, California; Wendy Tyndall Stephenson (Craig) of Bountiful, Utah; and Tyre Stephen Tyndall of North Logan, Utah. They have nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren, who were the joy of his life!

Many thanks to Primrose Hospice for their loving care: Monty, Taden, Aaron, Kira and the whole crew.
