October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month. The Turning Point of Lincoln County has a new campaign called “Light the Window," which aims to bring awareness to the need for ending domestic violence.
Lincoln County residents can show their support of ending domestic violence by picking up a flameless purple candle at the shelter and displaying it in the window of their home or business throughout October.
“We usually just do the flags around town,” said Turning Point director Kylie Taggart. “We wanted to do something a little different this year.”
Last year Turning Point served 228 victims of domestic violence. One in three women in America experience domestic abuse.
Taggart said the goal of the campaign is to “light Lincoln County purple.”
Residents can get a candle by donating toilet paper, dish soap, laundry soap or garbage bags to The Turning Point. Donations can be dropped off and exchanged for candles at the Kemmerer shelter.
