Model train bought out of storage after being ‘railroaded’

KEMMERER — After years of being “derailed” in the corner of the museum stage, the beloved model train is “back on track” and will take its place at the center of the Hamsfork Museum gallery for all to see and enjoy.

On Wednesday, May 8, young men and young women from the LDS Elk Mountain Ward volunteered their time to move mountains of artifacts from the gallery to the old blue chapel, which will be used as a staging room. The transition went off without a hitch as the whole museum was turned upside down.

Plans are for some displays to make a short haul downstairs into a business district, hopefully making clear connections and improving the continuity of our history’s storyline. Improvements downstairs continue with youth leaders applying a second coat of paint on the hall, ceilings and an additional room.

The huge endeavor was engineered by the Hamsfork Museum board consisting of Caleb Ellis, Dave Harwood, Dorothy Painter, Allan Harwood and Deb Archibald with extra crews including Janet Vetos and Cathy Knight. The volunteers were incredible, and it was amazing how careful the youth were in moving artifacts; we would give them a superior on their safety rating.

There is much to be done as our ETA gets closer and the Hamsfork Museum re-opens. We need many hands, so if you would like to help, please contact one of the board members.

The Hamsfork Museum board thanks all our volunteers for their help and encouragement, we couldn’t do anything without their horse-power.
