KEMMERER — Amidst a sea of proud parents, esteemed educators and excited graduates, Kemmerer Junior-Senior High School bid farewell to its class of 2024 on Saturday, May 25, in a heartfelt graduation ceremony that brimmed with inspiration and wisdom.

Valedictorian and student body president Tyler Thatcher delivered a poignant message about the significance of “usual” choices in shaping one’s future. Thatcher encouraged her peers to strive for excellence in their everyday decisions, reminding them that greatness often stems from the ordinary.

Drawing from his experiences as the former head coach of the Kemmerer High School girls’ basketball team, graduation speaker Wade Fiscus shared invaluable advice with the graduating class. Fiscus emphasized the importance of recognizing and harnessing one’s unique gifts, urging students to play to their strengths as they navigate life beyond high school.

“Whatever you think your gifts are, play to your strengths,” Fiscus advised. “Hang around the people who inspire you to be better. Be around people who challenge you and make you better.”

Fiscus also emphasized the significance of self-worth and surrounding oneself with individuals who offer honest feedback.

“You are worth more than you think you are,” he affirmed. “If you like yourself, you will accomplish more.”

Throughout his address, Fiscus encouraged students to reflect on their moments of triumph, asserting that these instances serve as mirrors of self-awareness and identity. Illustrating his point with an anecdote, he highlighted the diverse talents and contributions of individuals within a team setting, underscoring the importance of understanding one’s limitations and strengths.

In recognition of his outstanding contributions to education, science teacher Andrew Merritt was honored with the Teacher of the Year award. Merritt, known for his passion for teaching through storytelling and real-life examples, congratulated the graduating class and expressed his deep appreciation for the Kemmerer community.

“Taking the easy path is not as fulfilling,” Merritt said, echoing the sentiments of perseverance and self-discovery espoused throughout the ceremony.

As the echoes of applause faded and graduates bid farewell to their alma mater, the lessons imparted during the commencement ceremony served as guiding beacons, illuminating the path ahead for the class of 2024 as they embark on their respective journeys.
