Kemmerer’s Chaulk named superintendent of the year

Teresa Chaulk has served as superintendent of schools for Lincoln County School District No. 1 (LCSD No. 1) for 17 years and has a long career in education. It was recently announced that Chaulk was chosen as Wyoming’s Superintendent of the Year for 2025.

“I am really grateful, and I am filled with gratitude for the people I work with,” Chaulk told the Gazette, “My being chosen is a reflection of how this district, the school board and all of the staff work together to meet the needs of the students.”

Chaulk said she was nominated by the Southwest Region Association of School Administrators. Each of the four regions in the state put forth a nominee to the Wyoming Association of School Administrators, who then select the winner for the year.

“Teresa is a fantastic educator who strives to make the district a better place. She keeps on the forefront of all educational matters and helps the district to navigate these matters to better position LCSD No. 1 for success,” local school board chair Douglas Hunter said. “She is well respected by the staff and in the community and does everything she can to empower all the LCSD No. 1 staff. Her superintendent of the year award was well earned and much deserved. I thank her for all she does for us.”

In March 2025, Chaulk and her counterpart from each state will be recognized at the American Association of School Administrators conference held in New Orleans. In November 2025, she will be recognized at the Wyoming school board conference.

Chaulk’s background includes a bachelor’s degree in elementary education and K-12 special education from Black Hills State University; a master’s degree in K-12 special education; a master’s in school psychology; and endorsements for K-12 Administration and Superintendent from Fort Hayes State University in Hays, Kansas. She is currently working on an education specialist in school psychology and also holds a master’s degree in accounting and finance from DeVry University.

Chaulk began her teaching career as a special education teacher and coordinator in Garden City, Kansas. After moving to the Kemmerer area, Chaulk served as director of special education and curriculum, alternative school principal and business manager for LCSD No. 1.

The letter of nomination to the Wyoming Association of School Administrators states that Chaulk has created an effective leadership team and improved the overall culture of the district. The district received its highest ACT composite scores in 2023, and all the schools in the district meet or exceed Wyoming accountability.

Chaulk is a member of Wyoming Association of School Administrators (WASA) and the American Association of School Administrators (AASA). She was the featured profile in the AASA October 2022 issue of their newsletter. She is a member of the Wyoming Association of School Curriculum Directors, the Wyoming Association of Special Administrators and is very active in community organizations.

Chaulk frequently attends legislative sessions and has been appointed to several state-level committees. In 2018, Chaulk received the Myron Basom School Leadership Award.

LCSD No. 1 school board clerk Kristi Dearden said, “It is wonderful for people to get the credit they deserve, and Teresa Chaulk deserves it.”
