Floyd Leroy Dewey passed away on February 14, 2018, at the home of his nephew in Cathedral City, Calif. He was born March 7, 1943, in Port Huron, Michigan, to Harold and Anna Dewey, as the second of four children.
Floyd grew up and attended schools in Port Huron, graduating in 1961 from Port Huron High School. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served honorably throughout his three years of enlistment. After leaving the Navy, he worked at the Navy Yard in Washington D.C. as a computer programmer.
In 1966, Floyd married Sheila Crawford and to this union their beautiful daughter Tawn was born. Floyd and Sheila divorced after 30 years of marriage but remained friends. In 1969, the family moved to Kemmerer, where he worked at the First National Bank of Kemmerer for eight years.
While in Kemmerer Floyd became a member of the Lion’s Club, served as President of the Community Concert Association for a year, was the fundraising chairman for the Girl Scouts and was an active member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church.
Floyd then moved his family to Salt Lake City, Utah, where he worked for Mountain West Savings and Loan and later for Discover Card. While in Salt Lake, Floyd and his wife Sheila helped found Salt Lake Lutheran High School. He served on the Board and was the treasurer for 16 years. In 2000 Floyd moved to Tucson, Arizona, and was the Business Manager for Hardin Brothers Automotive until his retirement.
Floyd is preceded in death his father Harold Dewey, stepfather and mother Harold and Anna Sheffer, sister Vonda Eagle (John), stepsister Karen Sheffer and stepbrother Chris Sheffer.
He is survived by his daughter Tawn Young (Scott) of Salt Lake City, Utah; sisters Nancy Musselman (Gary) and Hope Sexton (Vern) of Port Huron, Michigan; nephews Rodney Kelch (David Fanning) of Cathedral City, Calif., Gary Musselman and Chris Sexton, of Port Huron, Michigan; nieces Ranae Dallas of Cathedral City, Calif.,, Rhonda Trevino (Jerry) of Indio, Calif., Lynn Ainsworth, Janice Musselman and Debbie Hardy (Nicholas) of Port Huron, Michigan; stepsister Connie Mathews (Jim) of Fort Gratiot, Michigan, former wife Sheila Dewey of Salt Lake City, and numerous nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles and friends with whom he was very close. At Floyd’s request there were no services.
