GILLETTE (WNE) — The Campbell County Sheriff’s Office is now investigating two reports of stolen sheep, totaling about 115 sheep, from areas south of Gillette and located about 10 miles apart.

A 67-year-old man told Sheriff’s deputies Monday afternoon that 40 of his sheep have gone missing from his herd located south on Highway 59 some time between Dec. 31 and Monday. The man believed the sheep were stolen but had no suspects, Undersheriff Quentin Reynolds said.

The man also did not see damage to his fencing or notice any vehicle tracks that may have been used to take the sheep. He valued his lost sheep at about $11,000.

The incident follows a similar report made on Thursday by a 69-year-old man who believed 75 of his sheep had been stolen from his ranch off Edwards Road.

Those sheep were last seen late last year and the man thought the sheep were taken between Jan. 1 and April 4, Sheriff Scott Matheny said at the time.

There are no suspects in either case, and a Wyoming brand inspector has been notified.

The 69-year-old man’s sheep are branded on the center of their backs with a “7 K” brand, and the left ears of the sheep are cropped, Matheny said.
