Local golf phenom Tazlyn Wagner won last week’s WSGA Junior Amateur Championship, held at Bell Nob Golf Course in Gillette.

Wagner — last year’s Lewe Lepore Player of the Year and the 2A State Champion for Kemmerer High School as a freshman — shot a three-day total of 247, edging out Sheridan’s Shelbi Gardner by two strokes to claim the championship.

Wagner opened with an 80 on Day 1, sitting atop the leaderboard by seven strokes over Gardner and Addison Bettinger of Buffalo Golf Club, both at 87.

Wagner carded an 89 on Day 2, allowing Gardner — who shot an 83 — to pull within a stroke. Wagner still held the lead at 169; Gardner was right behind at 170, while Bettinger rounded out the Top 3 with a two-day total of 173.

Needing to create some separation on Day 3, Wagner shot the low round of the tournament, carding a 78 to finish 80-89-78-247. Gardner also went low, but not low enough — her 79 gave her a three-day total of 249, and a runner-up finish.

Bettinger finished third with a 3-day total of 265, while Evanston’s Madison Brown finished fourth, carding a 266.

All four golfers are now qualified to represent Team Wyoming at the 2025 Junior America’s Cup, scheduled for July 27-31 at Columbia Edgewater Country Club in Portland, Oregon.

Wagner will be in Riverton this weekend for the WSGA Men’s and Women’s State Amateur, held at the Riverton Country Club.
