Lincoln County School District No. 1 would like to share three programs we’ve started this year.

Virtual Preparatory Academy of Wyoming is Lincoln County School District No. 1’s online schooling program. Our enrollment extends beyond our county’s boundaries to allow students throughout the state of Wyoming to enroll in grades K-8. We will accept grades 9 and 10 next year and will extend to 12th grade the following year.

What makes our online program so special? We enable students to learn in ways that are right for them — using innovative technology at home, at their proper level, and at their own pace. We also have state-certified teachers who work with students to provide individualized learning plans focused on academic and personal growth.

Upon enrollment, students are provided access to assessments to determine accurate placement. Ongoing evaluation allows teachers to closely monitor progress and determine if additional, small-group instruction is needed for students. Our approach enables us to provide personalized support to your child.

The learning coach, typically the parent or legal guardian, is dedicated to the student’s academic success, and is expected to be a very active participant in daily activities, depending on the student’s age. If you are interested in enrolling, call 307-459-5531.

RIDE Initiative

LCSD No. 1 is one of nine districts participating in a pilot program that focuses on competency-based and student-centered learning. RIDE (Reimagining and Innovating the Delivery of Education) is the collaborative effort of Gov. Mark Gordon, the University of Wyoming, the Wyoming Department of Education and the State Board of Education.

LCSD No. 1 was one of 17 districts that applied to participate in the pilot program. Through the pilot program, schools are focusing on subject mastery rather than test scores. Students have had the opportunity to choose pathways to show this mastery.

We will present our journey in May at a state-wide meeting in Riverton.

The staff and students who have participated in this program have been engaged and excited about learning. We have more teachers joining in the program and will work on developing more performance -based assessments and incorporate the components of Wyoming’s Profile of Graduate into our curriculum.

THRIVE

Lincoln County School District No. 1 was chosen to participate in the THRIVE pilot program sponsored by the Wyoming Department of Education. THRIVE is an initiative to take into consideration how the mental health and well-being of students, teachers, families, and all other stakeholders may affect the learning of our students and what we can do as a district to support adults and students with their mental and emotional well-being.

THRIVE stands for Think through decision, Respect for others, Inspire action, Value relationships, Evaluate oneself. The Conditions for Success associated with THRIVE are adult mental health and well-being, learning and collaboration for adults, parent and family community engagement, tiered systems to support students’ mental and emotional well-being (MTSS), and positive climate and culture.
