Students punish faculty as reading reward

COKEVILLE — Cokeville Elementary held its culminating Accelerated Reading Event with an opportunity to duct tape Principal Kenneth Dietz, Miss Janie Bennington, Mr. Harold Hatch, Mr. Dustin Wasden, Mr. Mike Thompson and Mr. Brady Thompson to the bleachers in the gym.

The school goal was 3,500 points. The students blew that goal out of the water, earning 4,490.6 points. Classes exceeding their class goals by 15% also earned a pizza party. Grades 2-6 all earned a pizza party by exceeding their goals by 15%.

Students were able to earn one piece of duct tape for meeting their personal goal and then one piece for every two points earned above their goal.

There were also two representatives from each class who earned the right to shave Mr. Mike Thompson’s head. They earned this right by being the top students in their class earning the most points in a day during certain times throughout the challenge.

When the day finally arrived, the gym was abuzz as students anxiously awaited their turn to apply their pieces of duct tape. Denali Keetch chose to use all 116 pieces of duct tape she earned on her teacher, Mr. Hatch.

Others chose to divide their pieces among the six being taped. Even the students were a bit surprised when the chairs that the adults were standing on were moved — they stayed taped to the bleachers. To the adults, thanks for being such good sports. To the students, you did it! Congratulations!
