The Kemmerer High School track and field teams traveled to Evanston Tuesday for the Rick and Wendy Schuler Invitational, taking advantage of the sunny conditions to turn in some fantastic performances.
Both the Rangers and Lady Rangers finished fourth overall in the 8-team field; the two teams combined for 28 individual placers — including six wins — and swept the hurdles events.
Lady Rangers
Lady Ranger Laynee Walker won three events on the day, sweeping the hurdle events, and finishing in the top spot in the pole vault. Walker ran a 16.65 in the 100 hurdles to place first, and followed that with a 47.09 in the 300 hurdles; in the pole vault, the senior cleared 10 feet to take first. Walker also placed third in the 100 meter dash, with a time of 13.12.
Fellow senior Natasha Martinez made the podium in all three of her individual events, finishing runner-up in both the 200 meters (28.13) and the long jump (16’.5”); she finished sixth in the 400 meters (1:04.93).
Other placers included Janae Skidmore in the high jump (4th, 4’6”), discus (5th, 102’7”) and shot put (8th, 32’10.5”); Ella Thatcher in the triple jump (4th, 31’10.25”), McKenna Whitbeck in the 3200 meters (6th, 15:20.04) and Emileen Dearden in the 3200 meters (7th, 15:22.02).
The sprint medley relay team of Hadlee Wood, Natasha Martinez, Ella Thatcher and Janae Skidmore finished third, with a time of 4:46.68.
Rangers
Sophomore Cole Rogers led the charge for the Rangers, winning both the 110 hurdles (14.69) and 300 hurdles (39.13), and finishing runner-up in the 200 meter dash (22.44).
Derek Hagler also finished the day as a champion, winning the shot put with a toss of 50 feet, .5 inches; he also finished runner-up in the discus, with a throw of 140 feet.
Other placers included Bowman Sandall in the 3200 meters (3rd, 12:03.88) and pole vault (6th, 10’6”), Colter Krell in the discus (4th,125’10”) and the 300 hurdles (5th, 45.30), Brent Erickson in the 3200 meters (5th, 12:21.73) and 300 hurdles (7th, 46.30), Kane Jimenez in the high jump (6th, 5’6”), Carlos Schneider in the 3200 meters (7th, 12:42.41) and Calvin Erickson in the 3200 meters (8th, 16:00.84).
The 4x800 relay team of Kane Jimenez, Chase Benson, Bowman Sandall and Brent Erickson finished second ( 9:27.73), while the team of Bronson Hubbard, Noah Parks, Sam Thatcher and Marcus Raechel finished fifth in the 4x400 relay (4:04.09).
