Rangers, Lady Rangers 4th at Thoman Duals in Green River

The Kemmerer High School wrestling teams were in Green River over the weekend for the Thoman Soda Ash Memorial Duals, with both the Rangers and Lady Rangers finishing fourth overall.

The Lady Rangers finished the tournament with one individual champion in Laynee Walker at 120 pounds, while the Rangers had two wrestlers advance to the Best of the Best round of matches — Roany Proffit at 138 pounds and Graison Kelley at 165 pounds.

Proffit pinned Evanston’s Kolby Halmiton to claim the crown, while Kelley lost to Pinedale’s Landon Fornstrom to finish runner-up.

Rangers

The Rangers opened the tournament Friday with a 39-30 win over Campbell County, but fell to host Green River 2 in the next dual, 44-27.

Kemmerer closed out Friday with a tough loss to Pinedale, 45-34.

The Rangers opened Saturday with a 46-35 win over Rock Springs, but fell to Green River 53-24 in the semifinals.

Ranger 138-pounder Roany Proffit went undefeated for the tournament, and won the Best of the Best title for his weight class, pinning Evanston’s Kolby Hamilton at the 3:26 mark for the overall championship.

Graison Kelley went 4-1, and earned a spot in the Best of the Best round, losing to Pinedale’s Landon Fornstrom.

Abel Jimenez at 113 pounds (4-1), Michael Symons at 144 pounds (4-1), Noah Parks at 150 pounds (4-1) and Bridger Anderson (2-1) lost just one match each for the tournament.

Other Rangers with notable performances included Owen Barton at 190 pounds (3-2).

Lady Rangers

The Lady Rangers wrestling program  had a solid weekend in Green River, placing fourth overall as a team, with one wrestler winning a championship, and two others finishing runners-up.

Grantsville won the team title with 286 points, followed by Lyman in second with 106 points and Campbell County with 105 points. Kemmerer and Rawlins rounded out the Top 5 in the 13-team field with 101.5 points and 86.5 points, respectively.

Lady Ranger Laynee Walker won the title at 120 pounds, posting a 4-0 record, with three wins by pin. Walker won a 4-1 decision over Grantsville’s Bailey Rainer in the finals to claim the championship.

Kaylie Julander pinned her first two opponents to advance to the championship match at 155 pounds, but lost a close 4-3 decision to Rock Springs’ Sarah Eddy to finish runner-up.

At 170 pounds, Lady Ranger Ella Kelley also pinned her first two opponents to advance to the title match, but couldn’t find an answer for Grantsville’s Caroline Mecham, settling for second place.

Other podium finishes included Riley Meyer, who finished fourth at 105; Kylee Batista, who finished fifth at 140; and Addison anderson, who finished sixth at 130.
