The Rangers earned second place at regionals with 170 points. Four wrestlers earned first place in their weight classes: Colter Julian (126), Dawson Schramm (132), Donny Proffit (145) and Hayden Walker (195).

Carlson earned second place in the 138 weight class, and the Rangers earned second place at regionals. The Kemmerer wrestling team is at state in Casper this weekend.

Kemmerer hosted the 2A West regional wrestling tournament on Saturday, Feb. 16. The Rangers earned second place at regionals with 170 points. Four wrestlers earned first place in their weight classes: Colter Julian (126), Dawson Schramm (132), Donny Proffit (145) and Hayden Walker (195).

First place went to Thermopolis with 186 points. Cokeville (158.5) was 3rd, Lovell (140) was 4th, Big Piney (120.5) 5th, Rocky Mountain (83.5) 6th, Shoshoni (73) 7th, Greybull-Riverside (68) 8th, Wind River (45) 9th, Dubois (16.5) 10th, and Wyoming Indian (9) finished in 11th place.

The Rangers compete at the 2A state wrestling tournament in Casper on Friday, Feb. 22, and Saturday, Feb. 23. Last season, the Rangers earned 4th place at state. Kemmerer wrestlers Dawson Schramm, Donny Proffit and Hayden Walker will defend state titles in Casper, with Proffit hoping to earn his fourth state title.

Freshman Conner Vickrey (113) earned second place and scored 18 team points for the Rangers. Vickrey won by fall (2:16) over Lovell’s Kyler Marchant in the quarterfinal match. In the semifinal, Vickrey won by decision over Arie Krandendonk from Big Piney. Vickrey lost by decision to Austin Ireland from Thermopolis in the championship match to claim 2nd place.

Junior Colter Julian (126) won his weight class at the regional tournament and scored 27 team points. Julian won by fall (5:23) over Cokeville’s Wyatt Mackey.In the quarterfinal, Julian won by fall (:47) over Rocky Mountain’s Isaac Bird. In the semifinal, Julian won by fall (2:46) over Shoshoni’s James Knigge. Julian won by major decision over Wyatt McDermott from Thermopolis in the championship match to claim first place.

Zakirie Malone (126) was 1-2 at the regional tournament.

Junior Dawson Schramm (132) was first at regionals and scored 28 points for the Rangers. Schramm won by fall (1:38) over Lawrence Woodington from Rocky Mountain. In the quarterfinal match, Schramm won by fall (:28) over Big Piney’s Jasper Sims. Schramm won by fall (1:43) over Thermopolis wrestler Blake Williams in the semifinal match, then won by fall (1:43) over Rocky Mountain’s Trent Lytle to claim first place. Schramm will look to secure another championship at state this weekend.

Matt Jones (138) earned 4th place at the regional tournament. Jones won by technical fall over Aiden Nicholson from Lovell. In the quarterfinal, Jones won by fall over Shoshoni’s Duke Gibble. Jones fell to teammate Carson Carlson in the semifinal match. In the consolation semifinal match, Jones won by decision over Thermopolis wrestler Jonathan Hagen. Jones fell to Rocky Mountain’s Travis Lytle to claim fourth place.

Carson Carlson (138) earned second place at regionals and scored 19 team points for the Rangers. Carlson won by major decision over Thermopolis wrestler Aiden Ozmon, won by fall (:34) over Greybull-Riverside’s Cyle Murph in the quarterfinal, and won by decision over teammate Matt Jones in the semifinal. In the first-place match, Carson lost by major decision to Cokeville’s defending state champ Lochlyn Teichert.

Brendan Miller (145) placed 7th at regionals. Miller won by fall over Big Piney’s Karson Cline, Wind River’s Shawn Reid and Shoshoni’s Jeremy Gibble. Miller lost matches to Greybull-Riverside’s Caleb Bottom and Thermopolis wrestler Jeffery VanAntwerp.

Donny Proffit (145) earned first place at the regional tournament and scored 28 team points. Proffit won by fall (:31) over Shoshoni’s Jeremy Gibble. In the quarterfinal match, Proffit won by fall (1:00) over Cokeville’s Eli Linford. Proffit defeated Thermopolis wrestler Jeffery VanAntwerp in the semifinal match, and won by fall (:47) over Shoshoni’s Tryston Truempler to earn first place. Proffit is looking to earn his fourth state title this weekend. 

Senior Josh Thatcher (152) earned second place at regionals and scored 19 team points. Thatcher won by fall (1:59) over Big Piney’s Taytan Wing in the quarterfinal and won by major decision over Cokeville’s Wes Teichert in the semifinal match. In the championship match, Cokeville’s Ammon Teichert won by decision over Thatcher, who claimed second place.

Senior Hayden Julander (170) earned 6th place at regionals. He received two byes and lost two matches. 

Senior Jeydon Boyd (182) earned 7th place and scored 4 team points at the regional tournament. Boyd won by fall (4:23) over Thermopolis wrestler Cole Christiansen, and lost matches to Cokeville’s Bentley Johnson and WInd River’s Colton Befus.

Michael Grimes (195) earned 8th place at regionals. Grimes received a bye and fell in two matches.

Hayden Walker (195) continued his undefeated season, earning first place and scoring 24 team points at regionals. In the quarterfinal match, Walker won by fall (1:16) over Lovell’s Dallas Oliver. In the semifinal, Walker won by fall (1:05) over Greybull-Riverside’s Tate Clutter. Walker won by fall (1:20) over Thermopolis wrestler Chance Watt in the championship match to claim first place. Walker will be defending his state title this weekend. 

Thomas Archibald (220) was fourth at regionals and scored 4 points for the Rangers. Archibald received two byes and lost two matches.

The Rangers hope to overthrow defending champion Moorcroft at the 2A state tournament in Casper this weekend.
