Opal trash fiasco continues

OPAL — A motions hearing was held Wednesday, July 12, at the Opal Town Hall with the Town of Opal as plaintiff, represented by prosecuting attorney Thayne Peterson. Residents Ellie Bienz and Tracie Clayton, as defendants, were represented by defense attorney Clark Stith. The defendants pleaded not guilty of alleged violation of garbage collection and disposal.

“The most striking feature about the citations issue against the defendants,” Stith said, “is there is no allegation that they failed to haul refuse or that they let trash accumulate at their homes. The citation is merely that they did not provide documentation or receipts from the landfill that they had hauled it there.”
