The middle school girls’ swim team is in full swing with 30 members this year.
On Saturday, Feb. 6, 26 girls swam at home against Evanston Middle School. They won the meet, 72-68.
“All the girls showed great effort and attitude on their first meet of the season,” coach Barry Wergin said. “We are all grateful that we have a swim season, and that we can compete during these challenging times.”
Fourteen of the girls on the team were also on the team last year. Wergin said they are showing leadership during practice and meets.
“It is very exciting to see these ladies take charge and helping the team,” Wergin said. The sixth graders are building a strong base for future success and competition, according to Wergin.
“Coach Villarreal and I are very excited to see what the season will bring,” Wergin said.
The middle school girls have seven more meets, with the season ending at conference on March 12.
“I want to say thank you to all the parents of the girls,” Wergin said. “Your support of them is greatly appreciated.”
