The Kemmerer High School Band recently participated in the University of Wyoming’s Annual Band Day, performing alongside the Western Thunder Marching Band during halftime at the Cowboys’ football game against the University of Idaho at War Memorial Stadium.
Students from Kemmerer and other high schools around the region joined Western Thunder in an early morning rehearsal to prepare for the halftime show. Under the direction of Dr. Joseph Carver, they experienced the thrill of performing in one large ensemble on a college field.
Kemmerer Band Director Sharon Reetz expressed pride in the students, noting the valuable experience they gained from the event. The day offered Kemmerer musicians a chance to connect with peers, sharpen their skills, and feel the excitement of a college game-day atmosphere.
The performance was a memorable highlight, with the combined bands thrilling the crowd with their fun songs “Dance the Night Away” and, of course, “Cowboy Joe.” For many students, it was an inspiring opportunity to see what college-level music could offer, motivating some to consider future participation in the Western Thunder Marching Band.
