It was a rough opening weekend for the Kemmerer High School volleyball team, who went winless at the annual Cokeville Invitational Friday and Saturday, despite proving to be a tough out for several of the teams they faced.
The Lady Rangers opened the tournament Friday against host Cokeville, the No. 1-ranked team in 1A. The Lady Panthers proved why they’re the team to beat in their class, sweeping Kemmerer 3-0 (25-9, 25-13, 25-20).
The Lady Rangers followed that with a 5-set thriller against Grace, Idaho, battling back from a two set-deficit to force a fifth and deciding set before ultimately coming up short. (25-22, 25-23, 19-25, 22-25, 15-12).
Kemmerer closed out play Friday against Mountain View, the top-ranked team in 3A. The Lady Buffs earned the sweep 3-0 (25-16, 25-13, 25-17).
The Lady Rangers opened play Saturday in the Silver Bracket against
West Side, another thriller that went five sets. After dropping the first two sets 25-12 and 25-16, Kemmerer won sets three and four 25-21 and 25-23 to force a set five. Spent after a tough four sets, the Lady Rangers had nothing left in the tank, dropping the set — and the match — 15-3.
Kemmerer closed out the tournament against Rich in the consolation match of the Silver Bracket, losing in four sets, 3-1 (25-16, 21-25, 25-23, 25-17).
