The Kemmerer High School girls’ swimming and diving team opened the 2025 season over the weekend in Lander, starting with the Lander Relays on Friday, and followed by the Bruce Gresly Pentathlon Saturday, with seven Lady Rangers swimming and diving their way to state-qualifying performances.

“We had a great start to the season,” said KHS head coach Amanda Aimone. “I am really happy with how the girls performed, their efforts and their great attitudes. We started out the season with the Lander Relays where we have a slightly different format in that there are more relays. The kids had fun with it. We saw some really fun performances.”

Divers Hanna Walker (182.60) and Kalyn Lockwood (181.10) finished 1-2 at Friday’s Lander Relays, while Gabby Bartschi finished eighth (108.70).

In Friday’s individual swimming events, Ally Bartschi finished eighth in the 50 freestyle (30.19), while Emma Culler was 15th in the 100 backstroke (1:31.84).

“Kalyn Lockwood had the best 6-dive performance of her career so far at that meet,” Aimone said. “Hanna Walker competed well and won diving, with Lockwood second and Gabby Bartschi successfully completed her first high school diving competition. That was really exciting for us. The swimmers had some great swims at that meet, as well as placing in the Top 5 in a lot of relay events.”

At Saturday’s Gresly Pentathlon, the Lady Rangers were led by freshman Logan Rogers, who finished second overall (4:37.35), swimming state-qualifying times in all five events (100 fly, 100 back, 50 free, 100 breast, 100 free), and winning the 50 freestyle outright, out of over 100 swimmers.

Fellow freshman Charlie Boylen also finished in the Top 10, swimming state-qualifying times in all five events to finish ninth overall (5:05.90).

“Charlie and Logan — although being freshmen — bring experience with competitive swimming, and we saw that experience help them to place in the top 10,” Aimone said. “Charlie placed ninth and Logan second. Logan also won the 50 free, beating out over 100 girls, which is no easy task with the caliber of athletes that were at this meet.”

Hanna Walker continued her winning ways in the diving portion of the competition, placing first, with a score of 407.55. Kalyn Lockwood was third, with a score of 311.65.

“The divers competed in 11 dives, where the top two highest scores receive an award,” Aimone said. “We saw some great swims, and the two senior divers did a great job again. Hanna competed well mentally, and physically; she showed her experience and mental toughness, which Coach Willoughby and I were really proud of her for. She won diving, as well as setting a new school record for 11 dives. Kalyn also competed well, breaking 300 points, which we were so excited for.”

In all, seven of the 15 Lady Rangers on the roster have prequalified for state — an excellent start to the 2025 season.

“Hanna Walker, Kalyn Lockwood, Ally Barstchi, Logan Rogers, Charlie Boylen, Payton Scherr and Demi Thatcher are all qualified,” Aimone said. “Charlie and Logan qualified in the five events at the pentathlon while Payton and Ally qualified in the backstroke and Demi in the 100 breaststroke. We were pleased with these performances and I am excited to see where the team is going to go. We have a lot of hard-working athletes, and just continue to want to do their best and get better.”
