The Kemmerer City Council gathered for its biweekly meeting on Jan. 25. There was a presentation by Wyoming Game and Fish as well as multiple new business items.

1. No motors

A Game and Fish representative told the council that the entity was thinking about changing regulations on the Kemmerer Reservoir. Currently, no motors are allowed on the water. The change would allow electric motors on boats in the reservoir. The council was unsure about their stance on it and asked for more time to talk to the community. The council will formally approve or disapprove of the change at the next meeting.

2. Fishing Pond

The Game and Fish representative let the council know that the Kemmerer Fishing Pond is overseen by the organization, not the city. He said the sign restricting age and catch limit goes against Game and Fish statewide guidelines and asked the council for it to be removed. He asked that everyone be able to fish the six-catch-a-day limit. The council must change an ordinance for this to occur, so the item was put on next meeting’s agenda.

3. Websites

The council heard two proposals for websites.

The golf course proposed a website where tee times, membership fees and other daily activities can be taken care of on the internet. This was to lessen the burden of golf course staff. The website will cost about $320 a month with a one-time $500 fee to set up. The council approved the creation of the website.

City Administrator Brian Muir presented an idea for an economic development website. Angelou Economics, the firm working with the council to bring businesses to the area, recommended the website in order for people to find out what is in the area. The website would promote Kemmerer as a place for businesses to grow. The website would cost $1,594 to design and $14 a month for upkeep. The council approved the website and made a plan to ask Diamondville Town Council if they would like to be a part of it.

4. WYDOT program

The council discussed becoming a part of a program offered by Wyoming Department of Transportation (WYDOT) to have the airport crack-sealed. With this program, WYDOT will cover 80% of the cost and the rest will be split between the county and the city. The total cost for Kemmerer would be $3,473.53. The council approved participation in the program.

As part of the program, WYDOT would cover 90% of the design and construction for the airport stripes. The county and the city would split the remaining balance in half. The total cost to Kemmerer would be around $2,300. The council approved participation in this part of the program as well.
