Stage Two of the Pedigree Stage Stop Sled Dog Race was canceled Sunday due to severe winter conditions. In a press release issued Sunday morning, the organization said “… after heavy snowfall and sustained strong winds led to severe snow drifting on the racecourse. Early this morning, officials conducted an inspection by snowmobile at sunrise and reviewed weather data from remote SNOTEL stations in the area before making the decision to cancel the stage.”

Stage Two of the annual race was scheduled to take place in Pinedale. Stages three and four were in Big Piney and Marbleton. Mushers and their crews will be in Kemmerer on Tuesday, Feb. 4, before Stage Five of the race, which begins in Kemmerer on Wednesday, Feb. 5. After a travel day, mushers will be back on the trails for Stages six and seven in Lander and Dubois, respectively.

“Dinner with the Mushers” will begin at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 4, at the South Lincoln Training and Event Center in Kemmerer. Cost for the nacho bar dinner is $10, and kids 16 and under get in free.

The race will kick off at 9 a.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 5, at the Ham’s Fork Trailhead.

Look for more coverage of the race and dinner in next week’s Gazette.
