KEMMERER —  South Lincoln Hospital District (SLHD) officials said they are excited to announce that Brendan Fitzsimmons, MD, has joined the provider team at South Lincoln Primary Care Clinic in Kemmerer, where he will join Dr. Eric Swensen; Kyla Franklin, NP; and Makayla Wynn, NP; who all provide care at this location.

Dr. Fitzsimmons brings more than 30 years of experience in rural medicine, critical access hospitals, and nursing homes specifically in Wyoming  to the facility.

Fitzsimmons was the sixth of nine children and grew up in the Chicagoland area. He spent six years in the Navy as a radar tech before moving to Wyoming to go to the University of Wyoming in Laramie where he received his bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering.

He then went on to Creighton University School of Medicine in Omaha, Nebraska, where he graduated as an M.D. in 1995. He completed the Family Medicine Residency of the University of North Dakota in Minot, North Dakota, and has been board certified in family medicine since 1998.

Fitzsimmons continued to pursue education and certifications during his career. In 2014, he received his board certification in Integrative and Holistic Medicine and, in 2023, he became certified by The Society for Post-Acute and Long-Term Care Medicine as a Medical Director for Nursing Homes.

After marrying his wife, who is from Wyoming, Fitzsimmons decided to settle in the state to practice medicine. He has been a private practitioner as well as an employed physician in various systems in Wyoming including North Plate Valley Medical Center, Lander Clinic of St. John’s Health in Jackson, Sublette County Health System, North and South Big Horn County Hospital Districts, and owned his own practice Plains Family Medicine in Laramie.

For most of his career, he has done family medicine, emergency medicine, and provided care for nursing centers.

“I like to see the practice of medicine as a collaboration between a doctor and a patient; I try to work with my patients to help them get not only what they need from the world of medicine but also what they want,” Fitzsimmons said.

He will continue his work with patients in Kemmerer as a full-time family medicine provider at South Lincoln Primary Care Clinic, as well as the new Medical Director of South Lincoln Nursing Center.

Recruiting another full-time primary care provider is one of many facets of SLHD’s goal to be the provider of choice for South Lincoln County. On Jan. 11, South Lincoln Primary Care’s hours expanded to once again include 8 a.m. to noon on Saturdays.

“We’re excited to have Dr. Fitzsimmons join the South Lincoln Primary Care team. He is a very caring physician, and we are excited for his clinical expertise and for him to join our community,” SLHD CEO Dave Ryerse said.
