COKEVILLE — “Panthers Got Game” is the theme for the 2024 Homecoming at Cokeville High School. The week is full of fun activities to promote school spirit and involvement by the entire student body and community.
The week begins Monday with “Mario Kart” as the theme for dressing up. Students are encouraged to dress up like their favorite Super Mario Bros. character. Businesses will begin to take on a new look of school spirit as windows are decorated. The cheerleaders will lead a pep rally at the end of the day.
Tuesday is “Disney Candyland” day. Students will dress up like their favorite Disney character. Windows and lockers at the high school will be decorated. The student body will vote for the homecoming king and queen, and the crowning will take place during the pep rally at the end of the day.
Wednesday is “Guess Who” day. It’s time to dress up like your favorite celebrity and see if anyone can guess who you are. Students will finish up decorating windows and lockers and also work on their floats. The cheerleaders will lead the pep rally at the end of the day.
Thursday is “Memory” day, where students will dress like a friend. Windows, lockers and floats will be finished up along with decorating for the dance. That night at 6 p.m. will be the tailgate party at the park, painting the street, the bonfire and cheers.
Friday is “Orange and Black” day with homecoming festivities throughout the day. The program will be at 9 a.m. in the auditorium, where they will honor classes that end in ’24. The parade is at 10:45 a.m. down Main Street. Students will be released at 11:20 a.m.

The homecoming dance will round out the day beginning at 9 p.m.
The Lady Panthers were on the road this week in volleyball action. Friday, Sept. 20, they traveled to Rich County to face the Lady Rebels. The Lady Panthers swept all three sets, winning 25-19, 25-17, 25-20.
The Lady Panthers traveled to Ft. Washakie for the first time on Saturday, Sept. 21. The Lady Panthers were again able to take the win in three sets, 25-8, 25-8, 25-12.

The Panthers football team traveled to Mountain View to face the Buffs in their homecoming game on Friday, Sept. 21. The Panthers found the end zone on their first drive of the game, but the PAT was no good, and the score was 6-0.
Late in the second quarter, the Buffs capitalized on a Panther turnover to get their first score of the ball game and, with a good extra point, were up 7-6 at the half. Late in the fourth quarter the Buffs again were able to cross the end zone, putting up six more and a good PAT, making it 14-6. That is how it would end. It was a great battle, but the Panthers came up just short of the victory.
Justin Moyes carried the ball 18 times for 80 yards, and Kayson Walker rushed 16 times for 78 yards. On the defensive side of the ball, Kayson Walker was in on 13 tackles with one blocked kick. Brodie Dean threw one interception, the first of the year for the Buff’s quarterback. The Panthers will get ready this week for their homecoming matchup with the Pinedale Wranglers.
