COKEVILLE — Cokeville schools celebrated Homecoming Week with many fun activities and special events. The week began with decorating businesses. Tuesday brought the halls at Cokeville High School alive with decorating lockers and windows.

The king and queen were crowned to reign over the week. Jedediah Awtrey and Brooke Bell were voted by the student body to represent Panther pride and spirit.

On Wednesday the decorating continued and community members showed their Panther pride by decorating their yards. The cheerleaders stamped paws around town and hung flags.

Thursday was the tailgating party at the park. Lots of community members came out to enjoy dinner, a street pep rally, painting Main Street, lighting the “C,” bonfire and pep rally with doughnuts at the high school. Faces were painted and excitement grew for Friday’s culminating events.

On Friday, the day began with the homecoming assembly, where the classes ending in “5” were honored. Speakers included Jessica Boulter, Class of 2005; and Macen Petersen, Class of 2015. The grand marshal was Pat Swenson.

Senior CHS volleyball players Addison Barnes, Madi Dayton and Mia Dayton spoke, followed by homecoming queen Brooke Bell. Coach Vierig shared some thoughts, followed by senior football players Ammon Hatch, Hudson Himmerich and Trip Reece.

They were followed by homecoming king Jedediah Awtrey. Coach Linford and Mr. Dietz took the stage, followed by the introduction of the student body by Amy Peck. The program was followed by a very wet parade down Main Street.

Panthers

The Panthers took the field, following a huge downpour, to take on the Thermopolis Bobcats. It looked like the Panthers would draw first blood, but the Bobcat defense kept them at bay and scored two times in the first quarter to lead 15-0. It wasn’t until the second quarter when the Panthers were able to find the end zone. They tried to get another touchdown before the half but, again, the Bobcat defense prevailed and the score remained 7-15 at the half.

The Panthers kicked off to start the second half, and Killian Teichert recovered a fumble just a couple of plays later. It looked like the Panthers might get on a roll when they scored again to tighten the gap, 13-15.

The Bobcats followed with a long touchdown run and extended their lead to 13-22. The Bobcats found the end zone one more time and defeated the Panthers, 13-28. The Panthers played hard but came up just short. They will host the Kemmerer Rangers at 1 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 10.

Lady Panthers

The Cokeville Lady Panthers hosted the Saratoga Lady Panthers for homecoming. Due to a fire on Interstate 80, Saratoga had to take the long way around, and the games were a little late getting started. The Lady Panthers wanted this conference win, and they went out and played hard for three sets to sweep the visiting team 25-17, 25-16, 25-16.

They got a good night’s rest and went back to the gym the following day, Saturday, Oct. 4, and swept the Lady Tigers of Encampment in three, 25-5, 25-11, 25-11. They will host the Farson Lady Pronghorns at 5 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 10.

Thanks to those who made Homecoming a great success. It was fun to see everyone get involved. Jill and Kim Clark won the decorating contest, followed by the Moodys, Awtreys and the Tims family. Thanks to the businesses who allowed the students to decorate and thanks to everyone who supported the many activities.
