Bridget was born on Sept. 20, 1924, to Pauline (Sammon) and Frank H. Taylor, of Kemmerer. After growing up here, she headed west and graduated from UC Berkeley in 1946, with a degree in English.
Bridget then taught briefly at a one-room school near Kemmerer, before returning to California. She went on to marry her husband, Gordon L. Huntington, in 1949, and settled in Davis, California, in 1963.
She and Gordon raised their family in Davis while she taught in its public schools (at Valley Oak and North Davis Elementary) and he taught soils science at UC Davis.
Post-retirement, she spent time with family and friends, volunteering. She was well traveled, visiting China, Alaska, Ireland, Rome and many less-distant destinations with Gordon before he passed away in 2002.
Both were active parishioners at St. James Catholic Church. Bridget was an avid reader, a devoted cat lover, and a quiet but committed sports fan, who supported the San Francisco Giants and 49ers.
After a period of declining health, Bridget passed away on Tuesday, July 2, in the comfort of her Davis home, where she had lived since 1963.
She was 99 years old and getting frequent visits from family and her cat, Lizzie, including on the day she passed.
Bridget was preceded in death by her husband, Gordon; her daughter, Margaret Anne (Peggy) Popp; and her brother, Monsignor Charles Taylor.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Charles and Laura Huntington of Shady Cove, Oregon; and by her three grandchildren: William Popp Jr., Ryan Popp and Bridgette Stone — all residents of Kemmerer.
Her presence, support and optimism will be deeply missed.
There will be a vigil for Bridget at St. James Catholic Church in Davis on the evening of July 19, then a funeral service at Smith Funeral Home in Davis on the morning of July 20, followed by interment at the Davis Cemetery.
