Betty Jean Carpenter Pfaff passed away peacefully on Dec. 25, 2024, at the age of 101. She was born in Lander to James Carpenter and Florence Eilman.

Betty was a middle child, having an older sister, Margarete, and a younger brother, James Wallace. She grew up in Atlantic City (Fremont County), where she spent a lot of time working with her Aunt Ellen at the Carpenter Hotel while she was young.

Betty married Carl Pfaff in 1942, and they lived in Laramie while Carl was going to school at the University of Wyoming. Later, they moved to LaBarge, where they lived for 64 years.

Betty loved history and spent a lot of her life recording historic events and stories about the Atlantic City area and the gold mines. Betty was the author of several books that were published telling the history of Atlantic City and the surrounding areas. She was also a wonderful artist and loved to draw and paint.

She is survived by a daughter, Kelly Kirkwood; and son, Andy (Barb) Pfaff; grandchildren, Chris (Tammy) Krell, Mike (Missy) Krell, Trevor Pfaff, Travis Pfaff and Ellen Walker.

She is also survived by her great-grandchildren, Norman (Briana) Krell, Amanda Christensen, Kaitlin Krell, Carl (Morgan) Krell, Jenna (Matt) Reiter, Erin (Mike) McGee, Peyton (Austin) Ashley, Giada Pfaff, Anja Pfaff, Tyler (Isie) Perry, Josie Middleton, Gracie Pfaff, Allison Walker and John Walker; and her great-great-grandchildren, Seth Krell, Colter Krell, Rylee Krell, Raelee Christensen and Weston McGee.
