Helen Margaret Johnson
Helen Margaret Sohlman Johnson passed away at her home in Diamondville on Sunday, Sept. 29, 2013, at the age of 82. Helen—who was the only child of Edwin and Lyyli Sohlman—was born on April 13, 1931, in Windsor, Ontario.
Helen was proud of her Finnish heritage, and she spoke and wrote it fluently. She worked as a secretary and legal stenographer in Canada and Kemmerer.
She met her life-long friend and companion, Bob, through cousin Ed Maki; Helen corresponded with Maki while Bob was in the Korean Conflict. They later married on Oct. 31, 1952, in Windsor, Ontario. Helen and Bob had four children: Nancy Jo (Bob) Combs, Liisa Aileen, Robert Wayne (Michael Bond), and Kathryn Ann (Gene) Knepper.
Helen enjoyed the outdoors, hunting, fishing and the numerous camping trips using a real tent—not a camper—with family and friends. Helen loved to read, embroider when her hands allowed, and she always loved doing her crossword puzzles.
Being a stay-at-home mother, Helen was always there when her family needed her, whether she was needed to watch the children or the pets (but not so much Nancy's horses!). Helen was one of the original members of the Happy Homemakers Club.
She was also very active in St. Paul's Lutheran Church for many years until she suffered from some mini-strokes.
She was very much loved and will be missed by all her family and friends. We love you, mother!
Helen is survived by her husband, Bob; sister-in-law Audrey Jones and her children, Nancy, Robert, and Kathy; and grandchildren Bobbie Jo (Andy Ourada), Brandon (Amanda) Combs, Teresa Gregg, and Stephen Gregg, Matt (Sarah) Jones.
She is also survived by her great-grandchildren, Paige Marie, Corbin, Braxton, Tyler, Amdon, Cheyenne, James, Matt and Whitney, and Kaden; and several nieces and nephews, her Happy Homemakers friends, and her St. Paul’s Lutheran Church Family, whom she loved dearly.
She is preceded in death by her father and mother; her daughter, Liisa; and sisters-in-law Aile and Lone (Fred) Kaysbier. She will be forever in our hearts.
The public is invited to attend a visitation at Ball Family Chapel on Thursday, Oct. 3, 2013, from 11:00 a.m. until noon. Memorial services will be conducted on Friday, Oct. 4, 2013, at 2:00 p.m. at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Kemmerer, with Pastor Jonathan Lange officiating.
