The annual club championship at the Fossil Island Golf Club was held on Saturday, Aug. 25 in Kemmerer. The championship determines the winners of the six highly sought-after club titles, which will be held by the most recent winners until next summer’s competition.
Last month’s 2013 champions, along with their titles and brief re-caps, are as follows:
Men’s Champion: Kurt Jones
Kurt Jones, a first-year member of the golf course, has demonstrated great consistency throughout the entire season; his score of 79 earned him the Men’s Championship. Jones is employed by Hogan Construction and is currently working on the new additions to Kemmerer High School.
Men’s Net Champion: Jake Lozier
Jake Lozier had one of the best net rounds the golf course has ever witnessed: his net score of 62 was eight strokes better than the nearest competitor, a feat that left Lozier as the Men’s Net Champion in addition to the overall net points champion. Lozier, the son of course members Bill and Sandy Lozier, was the runner up for the 2013 Player of the Year.
Ladies Club Champion: Dorothy Painter
Dorothy Painter has competed for—and won—the Ladies Club Championship multiple times, and 2013 proved to be no different for a golfer who does great things for her community and the golf course. With a winning score of 115, this year’s club championship was one of Painter’s better individual tournaments.
Ladies Net Champion: Diane Fagnant
Ladies Net Champion Diane Fagnant has also played in and won this event multiple times, being one of the most tenured members of the golf course. “I hope she doesn’t mind me saying this, but Diane is one of the strongest competitors—male or female—that this golf course has,” said Nick Harding, Kemmerer Golf Pro.
Senior Club Champion: Joe Fagnant
Joe Fagnant, a long-time member of the course and major contributor of time to the facility and its programs, became a first-time Senior Club Champion (60+) at the 2013 event. Joe’s play added him to a long line of other Fagnants who have performed well in this event.
Junior Club Champion: Eli Boley
13-year-old Eli Boley won the 2013 Junior Club Championship, adding to a strong familial golf legacy begun by his father and multiple-time Club Champion Eric Boley. This was Eli Boley’s first time winning the event, and the young man has a great future in this game awaiting him.
