The Lady Ranger Volleyball team has been working hard the last two weeks to prepare for the 2013 season. They will be relying on the experience of the five returning seniors: Libby Backman, Bailey Bowen, Marie McClaren, Tia Tiller and Madison Vickery.
Last weekend, the Lady Rangers headed up to Lovell, WY for their first games of the season. They started out by beating the Lovell B team 25-15 and 25-7 in the eight-team tournament. Next, they faced Meeteetsee and won handily 25-14 then 25-12. To end the day of pool play, Kemmerer faced Rocky Mountain and again won 25-12 and 25-17. Day one of the tournament saw the Lady Rangers coming out of pool play in first place and undefeated.
With the start of bracket play on day two, the Rangers faced a young Ten Sleep team and won 25-5 and 25-10. Kemmerer moved on to the semi-finals facing a strong Greybull team. This match proved to be more of a challenge for the Lady Rangers.
Greybull went up early, but Kemmerer came back with great hustle and excellent passing in the first game and won 25-18. KHS also won the second game 25-13 with great net play and strong serving. Kemmerer moved into the championship game against the reigning state champions Lovell. Kemmerer struggled from the beginning with passing and serving, which they had done so well with in the tournament up to that point. Kemmerer fought hard, but eventually lost 25-22 and 25-19 and took a respectable second place in the tournament.
Next up for the Lady Rangers will be Wyoming Indian and Wind River away next Sat., Sept. 7, and then away at Lyman Thursday, Sept. 12.For the complete article see the 09-05-2013 issue.
