COKEVILLE — First Lady Carol Mead continued her statewide literacy tour, hitting the Cokeville Branch Library on Saturday, March 9, for a “Books and Brownies” literacy event.

Mrs. Mead read to Cokeville kids and shared brownies provided by the library during her visit.

“I have had such fun reading to children in Dubois, Cheyenne, Laramie, Riverton, Cokeville, and Rock Springs in the last several months, and I am looking forward to being in Campbell, Carbon and Natrona counties this week and next,” said Mrs. Mead. “It’s always a delight to meet children and share a few good books, and I welcome the opportunity to further a love of reading in Wyoming’s young people.”

She also encourages parents and children to spend at least 20 minutes a day reading together at home and is working with the University of Wyoming to establish a statewide literacy research center and clinic. These activities are part of her children’s issues initiative, which includes promoting literacy, the arts, and healthy lifestyles among Wyoming’s youth.

Other organizations with which Mead has partnered include the Wyoming State Library System, Raising Readers, Read Across America, We Read and Scholastic Books, among others.

Mrs. Mead continues her tour on Friday, March 15, in Gillette and Saratoga and on Monday, March 18, in Casper.
