KEMMERER — The Kemmerer High School cheer squad and drill team took part in the 2013 State Spirit Competition held on Wednesday, March 6, in Casper.
KHS athletic director Shawn Rogers told the Gazette that the girls all performed extremely well. They were up against larger 3A and 4A schools.
The Ranger cheerleaders, led by coach Aarika Walker, competed in the 3A non-stunt category. Rogers commented that the girls placed fifth out of fifteen teams, coming in only a half a point below the fourth place team.
The drill team placed sixth out of nine teams competing in the 3A dance portion of the competition.
According to the drill team’s coach, Courtney Eisenbarth, the girls have been working toward this event all year by practicing and perfecting their technique; since December they have been working extremely hard on the routines performed in the competition. Eisenbarth said she felt the girls did very well.
