LAKE VIVA NAUGHTON — Over 200 contestants competed in the Kemmerer Lions Club 29th Annual Ice Fishing Derby on Saturday and Sunday, Feb. 16 and 17.
The club’s first derby was held in 1983 as a way to raise money for some of their larger projects and, with the exception of a single year hiatus, has been a staple in the area since.
The long-standing event takes about three to four months of planning. Funds from this and other club events are applied to a number of club projects, including the Allen H. Stewart Lions Camp, a summer school for the visually impaired in Casper, our local youth fishing pond, and local eyesight programs, including a partnership with Lincoln and Uinta counties offering early childhod sight screenings. The Kemmerer Lions chapter is currently considering 2013 projects.
Twenty-three fish were measured and fifteen winners named over the course of the two-day event.
