On Thursday, Jan. 31, the Panthers traveled to Big Piney to face the Punchers on their home court. In the meeting between these two teams earlier this year, the Panthers won by two in a close game.

This game was no different in that it was close throughout, but the end result was different, as the Punchers stole the win away from the Panthers, 48-49.

With seven seconds left in the game, the score was tied. Kennan Thompson put the Panthers up by two by sinking two clutch-free throws. The Punchers had seven seconds to go the length of the floor to tie the game or a three to win. The Punchers’ Sims, launched a long three pointer at the buzzer that was nothing but net. This put the Punchers up by one to win the game.

The game was well played by both teams.

“It was tough to lose with that type of shot but sometimes that’s the way basketball goes,” said Coach Brian Toomer.

The Panthers had six players contribute on the score board. Cody Nate had 20, Brendon Cook had 13, Kennan Thompson had 6, Jonathan Fiscus had 4, and Nathan Teichert and Braxton Delgado had 2.

On Friday, Feb. 1, the Panthers were host to the Kemmerer Rangers, playing for the second time in less than a week. The Panthers played the Rangers tough but came up short, 40-53 in favor of the Rangers.

Scoring for the Panthers were Cook and Nate with 14, Thompson with five, Delgado with four, Fiscus with two, and Teichert had one.

This week the Panthers get back to playing conference teams. They travel to Hanna on Friday, Feb. 8, and to Encampment on Saturday, Feb. 9. These are two important games for seeding with the Regional tournament right around the corner.
