COKEVILLE — The Panthers were host to the Lingle/Ft. Laramie Doggers in the first round of playoffs on Friday, Oct. 26. Cokeville was hit with its first winter storm on Tuesday, Oct. 23, and it seemed to continue throughout the week. By Thursday afternoon, Panther Field was blanketed with about six inches of snow. Mike Thompson and Lonnie Helm brought out the heavy equipment, clearing the field for Friday’s game. The cold temperatures and the sizeable snow banks that encircled the field did not deter loyal Panther fans, who cheered their hometown heroes onto a victory.

The Panthers put six points on the board in the first and eight in the second. They held the Doggers scoreless so the Panthers led 14-0 at the half. The Panthers had a strong third quarter, adding 19 more. In the fourth quarter the Panthers would get seven more and the Doggers would also get on the board with their 12 points for the day. The score was 40-12 for the Panthers when the final buzzer sounded.

It was quite a defensive battle in the first half but adjustments were made in the second as the Panthers got the big win and the ticket to advance and host the semi-final game with the Cyclones of Southeast this Friday, Nov. 2, with kickoff set for 1 p.m. The Toomer brothers were the leading rushers on the day with Tyrel carrying the ball five times for 100 yards and Ellis taking the ball down the field four times for 59 yards. Brigham Teichert had 20 tackles and Colter Linford made 17. The Panthers had 310 yards rushing and 121 yards passing on the day. It will again cost fans $5 for adults and $3 for students to get into this weeks semi-final game.
