KEMMERER — The Lady Rangers swept the Lady Punchers six games straight at home on Tuesday, Sept. 25. The JV team came out and held the Punchers to just 11 points in their first game taking it 25-11. The next two games were a little more challenging, but the Rangers JV team took the next two games 25-13 and 25-20. The JV team played with determination and skill, focusing on Big Piney’s weaknesses and finding the mix that has served them well in the past.

The varsity team took to the court next and also defeated the Punchers, walking away with a sweep of all three games, 25-17, 25-16, and 25-23. The last game was a bit closer, but the Rangers still held on for the win.

This Big Piney match was a warmup for what was to come later in the week at the Greybull Invitational, where the Kemmerer girls were scheduled to play Riverside, Little Snake River, Moorcroft and Greybull. Little Snake River had already beaten Kemmerer once this year, so the upcoming games were sure to be a barometer of the Rangers’ improvement over time.

The first day of the tournament, the Lady Rangers took on Riverside but weren’t able to get past the Rebels, losing their first two games of the invitational, 21-25 and 24-26.

Over the course of the next three matches, the Lady Rangers came away with three wins, taking all three opponents in two games each.

Little Snake River fell first, rattling their tails in defeat — 25-12 and 25-22 — as the Rangers avenged an earlier loss to the Rattlers. Next came the Moorcroft Wolves, who played tough but came up short nonetheless, losing to Kemmerer 25-19 and 25-18.

By that time the Lady Rangers were on an adrenaline high playing the host team Greybull, and even though the Greybull team had the home court crowd and advantage, the Lady Rangers walked away with victories in both games, 25-16 and 25-14.
