On July 24 at about 6:47 p.m., the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office dispatched Star Valley Search and Rescue and Lincoln County deputies to the “Lunch Counter” area of the Snake River. The crews were searching for a 46-year-old man who was swept downstream. The man, Joel Fegarido of Newman, Georgia, had been helping his son who appeared to be in trouble in the river. Several people in private boats tried to rescue Fegarido, but failed to before he disappeared under the water. Fegarido was not wearing a life jacket.
Star Valley Search and Rescue responded to the area but could not locate Fegarido. The search will continue on a scaled back level with searches from the bank and a swift water jet boat.
