Tour de Wyoming cycles through town
Posted: Thursday, Jul 22nd, 2010

At left, Laramie residents John Pierre, age 46 and Birdie Boltz, age 51 pedal into town on Sunday, the first day of the Tour de Wyoming, a six-day , 370-mile bike tour, which began and will end in Green River tomorrow.

Just out of the camera’s view is Phillipa Gee, age 49, a good friend of Birdie’s who traveled from New Zealand just to participate in the tour.

Other than Phillipa, the remaining 349 cyclists came from locations all across the country to ride in the tour.

The above trio reports that there are a couple of young children, aged 8 and 10, who are riding in the tour. The oldest Tour riders are in their 70s, making the average age of the tour riders over 50 years old. In fact, one of the couples celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on the tour.

At left, cyclists on the Tour de Wyoming camped out in front of Kemmerer High School. They started arriving Sunday morning, July 18, and soon the whole front lawn of the school was covered with tents, packs, bikes and cyclists. But by 8 a.m. on Monday morning, the lawn was spotless again!
