Merritt enters Assessor race
Posted: Thursday, Jul 22nd, 2010

I have lived in Lincoln County most all my life. My wife of 16 years Amy and I own a successful construction business. We are proud parents of three daughters and one son who bring us much joy. We love living here due in big part to the people who live in Star Valley and Lincoln County. We love camping and spending time as a family in the outdoors.

Over the last several years I have been involved in town and county politics, and as you all know things seem to be getting way out of hand. I see a tax and spend attitude being used in our towns, county, state and federal governments. From property taxes to civic centers, golf courses & ski resorts. Even the fifth cent sales tax being removed from us the citizens of Lincoln County. I proudly, along with several others in our communities helped in getting enough signatures for the petition to put the fifth cent tax back on the ballot. So each of you as well as I will have the right to vote for or against the fifth cent sales tax.

As Lincoln County assessor I will bring:

1. A new voice, fresh eyes, open ears and mind to you the citizens of Lincoln County.

2. I will do my best to make this office as transparent and accessible as possible.

3. I will strive to offer assessment protest hearings in two or three locations throughout Lincoln County and not only in Kemmerer. “Seeing how I believe county assessor should be assessable to all Lincoln County not just Kemmerer”.

4. Respect and customer service.

5. I will strive to notify property owners by mail, e-mail, or telephone regarding times the field assessors will be on your property.

6. I will work for those who elect me into office not those making the budget.

7. I will explore every option in cutting the assessors budget and being fiscally responsible with tax payer funds.

8. I believe county offices should not be considered career opportunities, instead should be viewed as public service.

I like many of you as tax payers unfortunately feel our concerns have fallen on deaf ears. As citizens of the United States we all need to do our part in getting our rights and freedoms back. This can only happen by getting involved, and trying to make a difference. I would encourage all of you to get out and vote and would appreciate your vote for Rick Merritt as Lincoln County assessor. I would be happy to visit with any of you who may have questions or concerns. I can be reached by e-mail at ramerritt@svwy.net or by phone at 307-880-4007. I am looking forward to being a voice for the people.
