The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Kemmerer Field Office is seeking volunteers to plant trees and install a fence to protect a riparian area at the Weeping Rock Campground northeast of Kemmerer on Thursday, Aug. 19.
The enhancement project is a National Public Lands Day (NPLD) event.
NPLD is the nation’s largest hands-on volunteer effort to improve and enhance America’s public lands. In 2009, more than 150,000 volunteers built trails and bridges, removed trash and invasive plants, planted trees and restored water resources.
In 2010, the focus of NPLD is to celebrate service and recreation on public lands. This year promises to be the largest and most anticipated event with 175,000 volunteers at over 2,000 volunteer worksites.
For the fifth year in a row, all National Public Lands Day volunteers who work at a site managed by the Bureau of Land Management, National Park Service, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service or USDA Forest Service will receive a coupon good for a “fee-free” day at any site managed by those agencies. The coupon is usable for one year— from September 26, 2010, to September 25, 2011.
To volunteer, contact Wally Mierzejewski at (307) 828-4508.
