KEMMERER — On Thursday, June 26, — the last night of Little League baseball for the city, the weather reflected the mood of kids and coaches alike.
Those who signed up for the homerun derby attempted to crank one out of the park as a small storm moved into the area. Lightning sparked all around as little league players scrambled to finish their last game of the season.
As one of the final two games came to a close, the skies opened up and dumped water on parents, coaches and players as they ran for whatever cover they could find.
The homerun derby was cut short — thanks to the rain — and the scheduled closing ceremonies were canceled.
The game set to start at 7 p.m. was also canceled.
Despite the weather, a cash drawing was held with Lynn Rogers winning $700, Ginny Thatcher winning $500 and Dan Krukenburg winning $300.
Parents turned in uniforms before retreating to their vehicles, leaving the fields, and concluding the Little League season.
