Ladies pick up conference win

SHOSHONI — The Lady Rangers traveled to Shoshoni on Saturday, Feb. 2, to get back into conference play.

With 6:10 left in the first quarter, Tia Tiller knocked down a three from beyond the arc, then had a steal and gave it up to Vickery for two, giving the Rangers a 5-3 lead. Kennadi Gilbert stole the ball and laid it in for two, giving the Rangers a 9-3 lead. With a two from Lexi Julian and two free throws from Tiller, the quarter ended with a 13-5 lead for the Rangers.

In the second quarter, Vickery made one of two from the line and the Lady Blue had a 6-0 run to get within three, 14-11.

Tiller would have a steal and a score and Vickery followed with a two of her own, making it a seven point lead. The Lady Blue were the last to score in the second quarter. The Rangers would lead 20-15 at intermission.

The Lady Blue came out after the half and hit a three. It wasn’t until the 5:00 mark when Vickery scored a two, followed by a rebound and put back up to give the Rangers a 25-18 lead. Gilbert picked up her fourth foul.

The Rangers were playing some of the best defense they have played so far this season and the third quarter ended with a Ranger lead of 25-21.

The Lady Blue came right out in the fourth, hit a three and cut the lead to one. Tiller started the scoring off with a one of two.

With 4:00 left on the clock, the Lady Blue tied the score at 26-26. With a two from Vickery and a steal from Tillerwith an assist back to Vickery, the ladies maintained their lead, 30-26.

The Lady Blue would come right back and hit two free throws to make the score 31-30. With five seconds left on the clock, Gilbert hit one of two from the charity stripe.

With a two point lead, the Lady Rangers just about had the worst happen to them — a Lady Blue player let it rip from about half court, the ball came off of the backboard and went halfway down into the basket and came right back out.

In the end, The Lady Rangers came away with a 32-30 victory over the Lady Blue. The Lady Rangers are currently 4-1 in conference play.

The Rangers’ leading scorer for the game was Tiller with 14. Vickery followed with 11, Gilbert with three, and both Marie McClaren and Julian added two.

The JV Ladies came away with another win 41-28 against Shoshoni. Amanda Pinter was leading scorer with 14 and leading rebounder with nine. The JV ladies secured three victories for the week.
