LINCOLN COUNTY — Fresno, Calif. resident John Patrick Dodds is nearing the conclusion of a unique county-by-county tour of Wyoming, and he has done it all without actually setting foot in the state.

Lincoln County was the most recent stop on Dodds’ travel blog, Every County (, which is composed of in-depth explorations into each and every county in the state. The Lincoln County portion the blog was published on Wednesday, Oct. 30.

Prior to covering the state of Wyoming, Dodds completed similar studies of Minnesota and South Carolina. His desire to get to know these vastly different states began after a physical trip taken with his son. “A few summers ago, my son and I visited all 99 counties of my native state of Iowa in about 32 days. It was the best trip ever.”

Dodds had been to Wyoming before the start of his virtual tour of the state, most recently having visited Devils Tower and Sheridan. He has never been to Lincoln County in person, but he became interested in and familiarized with the area through his project.

“I would really like to visit Star Valley someday, as it looks spectacular,” Dodds said. “And I hadn’t known before about J.C. Penney getting his start in Kemmerer.”

Wyoming became the third state covered by Dodds due, in large part, to its geographic diversity and vast differences in relation to Minnesota and South Carolina. To further his diverse sampling of the 50 states, Dodds will focus his attention on Maine next.

Beyond Wyoming and Maine, the plans for Every County are not yet set in stone. But Dodds’ love of travel and natural curiosity may continue the mission of the blog. “So, it’s as a computer-chair traveler that I will try to visit every county in as many states as I can,” Dodds writes.
