Two county residents killed, one hospitalized

Posted: Friday, Apr 12th, 2013

LINCOLN COUNTY — Two Opal residents were killed and one Afton resident hospitalized when their vehicle rolled over on County Road 340 — also known as the Exxon Plant Road — eight miles north of Opal, at about 7 p.m. on Saturday, April 6.

Opal resident Joyce L. Wolf, the vehicle’s driver, died at the scene, and Quincy R. Ashment died en route to the hospital. Afton resident Michael R. Ringwood was hospitalized at Intermountain Health Hospital in Salt Lake City.

According to information provided by Wyoming Highway Patrol (WHP), Wolf was driving westbound on County Road 340 when the vehicle migrated to the right and off the roadway, striking a delineator post. Wolf steered the vehicle back onto the roadway, but then overcorrected, steering to the right, at which point the vehicle went into a broadside slide and rolled 2 1/2 times. All three occupants were ejected from the vehicle; none was wearing a seatbelt.

Contributing factors to the crash remain under investigation by WHP.
