Mayor is temporary police supervisor

Posted: Thursday, Oct 4th, 2012

DIAMONDVILLE – Council members met in an executive session during the regular Monday, Oct. 1, town council meeting to discuss the vacancy left by the recent termination of Diamondville’s police chief. Upon resuming the regular council meeting, the council determined that Mayor Backman will temporarily supervise the police department. No further discussion regarding replacing that position was held.

Turning Point representative Kris Thompson addressed the council and requested support for the Oct. 6 Silent Witness march. The council gave Thompson permission to place six purple ribbon flags in Miner Park.

Continued discussion took place regarding the town’s option to purchase the Zebre property at the end of Little Canyon Road. Tom Crank, owner of Crank Companies, estimated the cost for an abstract and survey at about $2,000. The size of the lot remains undetermined. The item was tabled after deciding further research was needed.

The council also approved a new business license for Business Services, a new bookkeeping business owned by Diamondville resident Julie Error, in addition to discussing $1000 willed to the town by the late Mrs. Earl Kopaunik.
