KEMMERER By the end of September and just in time for hunting season the public will have much easier access to thousands of acres of U.S. Forest Service lands and have an off-road alternative for driving north.
Known as the Hunt closure, a stretch of dirt road crossing Minnie Holden Creek that provides the only good southern access to western Bridger-Teton National Forest is currently undergoing work now that a conservation easement contract between Wyoming Game and Fish and the Hunt family, private landowners, has been signed following two years of work toward that end.
Located west of Commissary Ridge and north of Kemmerer about 35 miles from Hwy 189N, this section of dirt road has been closed for several years, limiting easy public access to Forest Service lands and preventing continuous off-highway travel along Fontenelle Creek to towns north of Kemmerer, like Alpine and LaBarge.
