The Kemmerer High School boys’ swimming and diving team turned in another strong showing over the weekend, placing eighth at the Bruce Gresly Invite in Lander.

“Overall, the meet went really well for us,” said KHS head coach Amanda Aimone. “We were 8th out of 14 teams, with only six guys. We had to leave one home due to illness. We had some wonderful performances.”

Top finishers for the Rangers included Malachi Villarreal, who finished third in the 500 freestyle (5:13.56), and fifth in the 200 freestyle (1:56.39). Bowman Sandall was fourth in diving, posting a state-qualifying score of 302.85; he also placed 15th in the 100 breaststroke (1:15.64). Camden Killian swam to a sixth-place finish in the 100 butterfly, with a state-qualifying time of 1:04.11; he also finished eighth in the 100 breaststroke (1:11.59). Colter Krell rounded out the Rangers’ podium finishes with a seventh-place finish in the 100 breaststroke, posting a time of 1:11.56, three-tenths of a second ahead of teammate Killian in eighth place.

Other notable performances were turned in by Gabe Platt in the 100 butterfly (20th, 1:17.96) and Thomas Symons, who cut time in the 100 backstroke (27th, 1:12.67).

“I have to acknowledge Gabe Platt,” Aimone said. “Although he didn’t make the top 12, he did cut seven seconds in his 100 fly, which is pretty awesome. That also goes for Thomas Symons, who had season best swims in the 50 free and 100 backstroke. Also, Malachi Villarreal was 3rd in the 500 and 5th in the 200 free. Bowman Sandall was 4th in diving out of 18 divers. Colter Krell

was 7th in the 100 breast, with a season best time, and to round it out, Camden Killian was 6th in the 100 fly.”

In relays, the team of Villarreal, Sandall, Killian and Krell placed eighth in the 200 medley relay (1:53.31), while Killian, Krell, Symons and Platt finished 15th in the 200 freestyle relay (1:52.14). The team of Villarreal, Symons, Sandall and Platt placed 14th in the 400 freestyle relay (4:17.36).

“We really look forward to this meet, because it gives us a great opportunity to see where we are stacking up,” Aimone said. “It is also a great time, because Lander runs a really nice meet. The kids all did a great job.”

KHS boys’ swimming and diving team will close out the regular season with a meet at Lyman Friday, followed by a home meet Saturday.
