The Kemmerer High School boys’ golf team finished second overall at last weekend’s 2A State Golf Championship in Newcastle, with three Rangers earning All-State honors.

Upton won the team title with a score of 700, followed by Kemmerer in second, with a score of 795. Tongue River was third, carding an 812; Sundance (820), Wright (825), Niobrara County (833), Glenrock (843), Thermopolis (858) and Ten Sleep (1011) rounded out the field.

The Rangers finished with two golfers in the Top 10, led by Austin Christen’s fourth-place finish. Christen shot an opening-round 83, then followed that with an 89 on Saturday to finish with a 172, just two strokes back of runner-up Braxton Tremain of Tongue River. Upton’s Logan Timberman won medalist honors with an 83-69-152.

Carter Wood – last year’s state runner-up – struggled to an opening round 96, but battled back on Day 2 to shave 13 strokes off his Day 1 total, carding an 83. His two-day total of 179 was good enough for sixth place, as well as his second consecutive All-State honor.

Ethyn Perkins and Sam Swann rounded out the Rangers’ varsity contingent: Perkins carded a two-day total of 208 to finish in 20th, while Swann finished 33rd, carding a two-day total of 236.

On the girls’ side, Lady Ranger Kaylee Miller earned All-State honors with a 10th-place finish, carding a 114-111-225.
